CPT 92507 Update: What ISHA Members Need to Know

The Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ISHA) is actively monitoring developments related to CPT code 92507, which is currently under review through the American Medical Association (AMA) CPT process. We want members to understand what’s happening and how to participate.

1. What Has Happened

CPT code 92507 (treatment of speech, language, voice, communication, and auditory processing disorders) is undergoing review through the AMA CPT process. This is part of a routine evaluation to ensure codes accurately reflect current clinical practice.

At this time:

  • 92507 remains unchanged and in effect.
  • Any potential changes would not occur until 2027 at the earliest.

2. What’s Being Proposed

Proposals under review may affect how services currently reported under 92507 are defined or structured in the CPT code set. Professional feedback during this stage is important in helping inform the review process.

3. Take Action During the Comment Period

Speech-language pathologists have the opportunity to share professional input during the AMA open comment period.

Comments should focus on:

  • Clinical practice and service delivery
  • Patient care considerations
  • The role of speech-language pathology in treatment

ISHA encourages members to participate using professional, non-reimbursement focused language.

4. Know the Timeline

Key upcoming dates include:

  • March 19 at 7:00 PM – ISHA informational session
  • Spring 2026 – AMA CPT review process continues
  • January 1, 2027 – Earliest possible implementation of any changes
