The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services(CMS), has extended some telehealth flexibilities through September 30, 2025. Thus currently, Medicare beneficiaries pursuant to the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extension Act, 2025, can continue to receive Medicare telehealth services wherever in the U.S. and territories they are located, including their home. Through September 30, 2025, Medicare beneficiaries do not need to reside in a rural area or medical facility. Pursuant to this act, any practitioner who can independently bill Medicare for their professional services may deliver care via telehealth, which includes audiologists, SLPs, OTs and PTs.
However, beginning October 1, 2025, the statutory limitations that were In place for Medicare telehealth services prior to COVID-19 PHE (Public Health Emergency), will be reinstated, Including geographic restrictions, location restrictions as to where services can be delivered, and limitations on scope of practitioners who can provide telehealth (Medicare Learning Network Booklet,April 2025, p.3).
