Committee Updates: February 2025

Published in the February 2025 issue of the ISHA Voice.

  • ISHA’s Division of Educational Development organized and executed the 2025 ISHA Convention in Rosemont on February 6th and 7th.  ISHA committees meet in-person to discuss their work, goals, and future plans.  The Class of 2025 Honorees were celebrated.  Numerous sessions of a wide variety of topics were available for participants to attend and earn continuing education units.
  • Karen Kockler, ISHA’s ASHA SEAL representative, reported that new ISBE Guide for SLPs, Educational Audiologists, and Assistants is in the works.  She participated in submitting a bill to update the School Code regarding supervision hours (to match the 6 hours in our Practice Act) and worked on SLPA Legislation (details for 100 hours supervised fieldwork).  She continues to work on IEP Paperwork Redundancy with Speaking for Children Coalition, ISBE, and Legislators.
  • The Honors Committee was thrilled to present our four honorees at this year's ISHA convention. Please consider nominating a peer for the 2026 ISHA Honors. We all know a deserving colleague. Information and applications are on the ISHA website in the Members Only section and are due May 15th!
  • ISHA’s Student Involvement Committee welcomed a new member, Megan Stegall.  The committee is excited to announce a Student Webinar on March 27th at 7-8pm central entitled Empowering Yourself: Advocacy Strategies for Emerging SLPs and Audiologists.  Watch for the registrations this month!
  • ISHA’s Ethics Education Committee was excited to announce that entries from the Ethics Video Contest contest were up compared to last year, and it was a very close vote!
  • ISHA’s Billing and Reimbursement Committee has reviewed relevant legislation for 2025. Committee members, Valerie Brosius and Carrie Kerr, presented at the 2025 ISHA Convention. Committee member, Danila McAsey, will be spearheading the Legislative Pairing Act. Our co-chairs, Stefanie O'Donnell and Susannah York, and ASHA STAR, Carrie Kerr, are meeting with ASHA to discuss future opportunities for reimbursement advocacy. Our committee will meet again in March.
