Advancing Dementia Care: Evidenced-Based Assessment, Intervention Strategies, and Emerging Research

 

Presented by: Jordan Bowman, M.A. CCC-SLP-PNAP

Jordan Bowman obtained her Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Ohio University and her Master of Arts in Speech - Language Pathology from the University of Akron. She is currently in the role of Strategic Partnerships at Athelas. Jordan is a nationally recognized speaker on topics including dementia, mild cognitive impairment, pain management, wellness and mindfulness. Jordan is highly involved in her profession and is the current Past President for the Illinois Speech-Language Hearing Association (ISHA). Jordan was appointed by the ISHA Board to be the American Speech-Language Hearing Association’s State Advocate for Medicare Policy based on her experience and passion for working with and advocating for older adults in long-term care.

Activity Description: As the prevalence of dementia continues to rise, speech-language pathologists play a vital role in delivering comprehensive, person-centered care to individuals across the continuum of cognitive decline. This presentation explores current best practices in assessment and intervention, emphasizing tools that are both psychometrically sound and clinically practical. Evidence-based treatment approaches—including strategies for communication enhancement, cognitive stimulation, and caregiver education—will be discussed within the framework of interdisciplinary care. Additionally, emerging research on neurodegenerative conditions and cognitive-communication disorders will be analyzed to highlight evolving trends and their implications for clinical practice.

To report your ASHA CEUs or to receive confirmation of course completion, please complete the Participant Form for EACH course. This form can be found in the confirmation email you will receive upon program registration. The participant form will require completion of participant information, assessment of learning objectives and the course evaluation. You are required to attend the entire recorded course to obtain continuing education credit. Each participant form will be cross-checked with the viewing log to ensure participants viewed the entire course. Any individual who did not view the entire course will not receive credit and will be removed from the ASHA course report.  ASHA CEUs will be reported at the end of each month.
