HB 5225 was signed into law and is now Public Act 104-0561.
A SLP may diagnose autism spectrum disorders if:
1. The child is under 3 years of age and has no known co-occurring medical conditions, such as seizures, gastrointestinal problems, or sleep disorders;
2. The SLP has completed training in age-appropriate autism diagnostic evaluation methods provided by an approved continuing education sponsor;
3. The SLP has, upon renewal of the SLP's license, certified to the Department that at least 5 of the SLP's required continuing education hours were in age-appropriate autism diagnostic evaluation methods provided by an approved continuing education sponsor; and
4. The diagnosis occurs as part of the IL Early Intervention program. The SLP must refer the child to the appropriate medical personnel for further evaluation or management for services outside the scope of practice of a SLP
Effective January 1, 2028
