Description: We will learn about prevalence, risk factors, and common signs of early childhood hearing loss and real-life consequences of late-identification, discuss the mission, vision and scope of the Illinois EHDI program, and explore the socioeconomic, demographic, cultural and clinical factors that often impact family access to follow up screening, pediatric hearing health monitoring and evaluation, and enrollment in Part C and Part B programs. We will discuss risk factors associated with postnatal hearing loss, including the top genetic, non-syndromic cause, and the top non-genetic cause of hearing loss in infants and young children and the benefits, challenges, and current protocols associated with genetic testing for Connexin 26 and screening for cCMV.
